4. I - JGO) Attempted to meet with Mr.
Charles Johnson, House Post Office and Civil Service Committee
staff, but he was away from his office for the day.
5. Met with Mr. Robert L. Michaels, House
Appropriations Committee staff, and scheduled a meeting for 10:00
a. m. with Mr. Carl Duckett. This is in response to Mr. Michaels'
request of last week for further discussion of external research
contracts relating to analysis of new Soviet aircraft.
Delivered to Mr. Michaels the Director's letter to the Chairman
concerning Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty. Mr. Michaels
observed that some question had been noted about the possible use of
TV in appropriate areas and inquired whether any studies have been
made on this subject.
Briefed Mr. Michaels on the deployment of the Soviet SS-9
ICBM, USSR-Pakistan arms negotiations, continuation of Soviet
troops in Czechoslovakia and Soviet use of the submarine base at
Sayda Bay.
6. Called Dr. Al Westphal, House Forei gn Affairs 25X1
Committee staff, and thanked him for his help in connection with 25X1
7. (1 ~ JMM) Called Senator Henry M. Jackson to
arrange a time for Bruce Clarke and me to meet with him to clarify
the recent estimates on Soviet ICBM deployment. (This is in response
to a question from the Senator at the recent DCI briefing of the combined
CIA Senate Subcommittees.) Senator Jackson said he would call and
let us know when he could see us.
