Approved For-Rele s"` 620'04/05/t2 Q[ Zc O338ROA02OO 170087-3 - JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Monday - 25 March 1968 say that the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy had been in touch with Dr. Chamberlain directly regarding the last Chinese Communist nuclear 25X1 test. As a result I will be briefing Mr. Murphy and possibly Mr. Conway, of the Joint Committee staff, on this this afternoon. 25X1 3. called to 25X1 4. Mr. Murphy, Joint Committee on Atomic Energy staff, called and asked if the Agency's budget or personnel ceilings are going up or down for Fiscal Year 1969. He said he was interested in any unclassified statement we could make on this subject. When I queried Mr. Murphy as to the reason for his request, he said that the Committee would be holding hearings on the AEC budget in the near future and he is interested in knowing what other departments and agencies such as State, DOD, NSA and ourselves would be doing. He said if there was no unclassified information available or no unclassified statement made by the Agency, he would eliminate our Agency from his comparisons. I indicated that this was in fact the case. Approved For Release 20 I/ i I DL"0338ROO0200170087-3 25X1
