Thursday - 1.6 February 1967
Counsel, House rme ervices Committee, who advised that
Chairman Rivers is interested in a detail of Agency covert action
projects regardless of whether the Agency feels that an individual
project is important or not. He indicated that the Chairman is quite
concerned over the current NSAmatter. He also advised that there
was a meeting with the Speaker of the House, who advised that there
will be no hearings by the House Education Committee with regard
to Agency involvement with the NSA.
Met with Mr. J.R. Blandford, Chief
arranged with him for a breakfast meeting and general Agency briefing
after next week. The Senator indicated that his time was fully
committed during the coming week. He also indicated that he would
appreciate it if Mr. William Woodruff could accompany him on his
visit to the Agency. He was most appreciative of the Director's offer
of a briefing prior to the next CIA substantive briefing. With regard
to the Senator's letter concerning the U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT
item relating to Soviet support of the North Vietnamese, he advised
that he would appreicate it if I could advise him on Monday or Tuesday
as to the basic accuracy of the figures used in that report. It was a
most cordial meeting and the Senator expressed his admiration for the
Director and the Agency.
