JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Thursday - 8 June 1967
Talked to Joyce Newton, in the office of
Representative Frank Horton (R., N.Y.), concerning a constituent request
for information on the China Air Transport Company. The constit jen is
lawyer who is seeking a means of recovering a judgment from one
hom the constituent believes to be employed by China Air Transport.
I pointed out that there is no such airline and that possibly the constituent
meant to refer to China Airlines or Civil Air Transport. I suggested the
client write directly to Civil Air Transport which has a Washington office.
Miss Newton thanked me and said she, would herself call Civil Air Transport.
1 11 Talked to Paul Rosenblatt, in the office
of Representative Sam Steiger (.K., Ariz.), concerning an allegation in the
Washington Observer of the murder of three Agency employees because of
their knowledge of a KBG penetration of the Agency. I pointed out to Rosenblatt
that the Agency does not comment on this type of allegation and that I thought
the letter which Mr. Steiger had already sent to the constituent questioning the
truthfulness of the Washington Observer was more than adequate. I did note
for the Congressman's personal knowledge that the Washington Observer has
in the past published totally unfounded allegations concerning the Agency and
that this latest also has no basis in fact. I cautioned Rosenblatt that this was
for the Congressman only and could not be used in further correspondence
with the constituent. Rosenblatt completely understood our reason for no
comment.
I Delivered a blind memorandum on
Ito Jay Garner Cline, House Subcommittee on Immigration and
25X1 I land John S. Warner met with
Chairman Mendel Rivers and Russ an ford again at 7:15 a. m, for a
current briefing on the Middle East situation. Mr. Rivers was again
appreciative and due to other commitments, requested that we meet with
him at ten o'clock tomorrow morning.
