JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Thursday - 26 January 1967
1. LC) Met with Robert Michaels, House Appropriations
Committee staff, and briefed him on the function which the U.S. Geological
Survey will perform as a reproduction facility for civilian maps utilizing
material made available from Agency sources. This was done in connection
with an upcoming budget request from the Department of Interior resulting
from expenditures necessary to arrange for the handling of this material
in accordance with security requirements. Michaels thanked me for giving
him this background briefing.
Later in the day, I learned from Mr. Radlinski, of the Geological
Survey, that Interior representatives had met with Michaels and were
most appreciative of our giving him an advance briefing.
2. I bLC) At his request, I provided William Woodruff,
Senate Appropriations Committee staff, information on the chronology
of the Soviet ABM deployment- and extracts from pertinent intelligence
estimates on this subject.
3. GLC) Met with Captain John Davenport, Navy
escort officer who will accompany Senator John Tower to the Far East
this weekend. I obtained more detailed information on the Senator's
itinerary and asked Davenport if he would send a Navy communication to
the Far East posts where the Senator desires Agency briefings, alerting
the appropriate offices to the Senator's wishes in this regard. Davenport
said he would be happy to do so.
4. ILLM) Ruth Taylor, Appointment Secretary
to Congressman G. V. Montgomery (D., Miss.), confirmed the
Congressman's breakfast briefing appointment with us for tomorrow
morning. During the evening I was advised by the Watch Office that
Miss Taylor had called to indicate the Congressman's regrets that
he would not be able to attend the breakfast briefing.
