WH, called to advise that Senator Eastland had sent a strong telegram to both Commerce and Treasury concerning a financial loss to a constituent in an export transaction. I uis 25X1 forwarding the full details concerning this shipment and its likely diversion to Cuba. Energy staff, called and requested inforrmi-tilln in knowing whether any NATO atomal targets were involved. I told Murphy this was still being sorted out and that it was too early to make any conclusions at this point. I assured him that any evidence of matters of interest to the Joint Committee would be reported to them in due course. Murphy also asked if we could advise him of any open Soviet statements or pronouncements commenting on the effectiveness of their ABM system. Murphy is interested in using any quotable material in connection with a speech he is preparing. I told him I would check on this for him. Senator Stuart Symington for delivery t 25X1 House Armed Services Committee, and delivered to him updated copies of V Y~~ background papers together with an edited copy of H. R. 7315. Received from Mr. Kelleher a copy of the Chairman's letter, dated October 4, 1967, for the Honorable Elmer Staats, concerning the Agency records retirement program.
