Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) a new charter placing it above the Central Intelligence Agency
(CIA) in the intelligence pyramid.
Currently, "knock down drag out" fights are going on between the CIA and the DIA for top
billing under the new regime. It is reported that the Nixon decision to keep Richard Helms on as
CIA director indicates his intention to reduce the stature of the agency.

ALL DIGITAL DATA SYSTEM SLATED FOR DC-l0 TEST PROGRAM
McDonnell Douglas is putting together at its Long Beach facility an all digital data system
for ultimate use in the DC-10 test program. Target for having the prototype of the airborne system
and the "front end" of the ground system (does not include the computer) is J1969.

ing Components for eight airborne systems are on order. Dynatronics, Orlando, a., the digitizers. The analog-to-digital converters will provide a serial-output 125-words-per-
frame format at 10-bit-per-word rate. The signal conditioner subsystem will be supplied by Dana
Corp., Newport Beach, Calif.
The company currently has the telemetry subsystem under study. It will be a pulse code
modulated in the L-band range employing frequency diversity and the Manchester bi-phase code.
Tentative plans call for a receiving antenna to be situated in the San Gabriel Mountains
which separate the Los Angeles/Long Beach area from the Antelope Valley site of the company's
Palmdale facility where most of the flight test activity will take place. Tlemetry would be relayed
in real time to the Long Beach plant.
