5. (Secret - GLC) Bill Woodruff, on the staff of the Senate
Appropriations Committee, called and asked if the Agency's budget had
been cut by the Bureau of the Budget. I made arrangements for Mr. John
Clarke, OPPB, to talk to Woodruff directly about this.
6. (Secret - JMM) Met with Senator Claiborne Pell (D. , R. I. ) and 25X1C
in response to his request briefed him on the Agency program regarding
Pell went out of his way to compliment the irec or an
for the good press we are getting on the Hill, particularly among the
previously skeptical liberals. In response to my question, Pell said he
thought Chairman Fulbright was sending Committee staff officers Lowenstein
and Moose for an on-the-spot look at the Vietnam situation because he dis-
trusted information being received through Administration channels.
