2. led off by introducing himself and the other
briefers and explaining their expertise in the field of current FI informa-
tion and by advising that the briefings would cover each country requested,
in order, with regard to political and governmental structures with secon-
dary emphasis on economic and other considerations, but that the briefings
would not deal with American policy or overseas base considerations. This
format was followed throughout the briefings. Communist China, Formosa,
Japan, Okinawa, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, and Laos were covered.
Although detailed in nature, questioning during the presentation was related
to the information being provided and resulted in a very cordial and relaxed
session.
3. Upon departure the comment was made by Mr. Paul that they
would like to have had a similar briefing prior to their European and
Middle East trip, but due to lack of experience they had failed to request
it. It was also noted with appreciation that the coverage provided had been
more complete than they had anticipated. The offer was made by Mr. Maury
to provide any further information that might be desired.
