M:r. Robert Michaels, House Appropriations
Committee staff, called and requested a briefing on Laos for
Chairman Mahon this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in room H217 of the Capitol. 25X1A
After checking with the Director's office, I advised Mrr. Michaels that

available at 1:00 p.m. to meet with the Chairman at is convenience.

Defense Intelligence Agency, who advised that he had been requeste y
o contact us concerning general matters of congressional
ill be visiting the Headquarters in the next
couple of days and will ca before coming over. I told the Colonel we were
looking forward to working with him.
7. Called Jay Sourwine, Chief Counsel,
Senate Internal Security S 1 commt?e_ at home and learned that he has
flu, With his agreement I arranged for the cancellation of
Ivisit until after the holidays.
8. Talked with Bill Woodruff, on the staff of
the Senate Appropriations Committee, about the Senate action yesterday
in adopting the Laos amendment to the defense appropriations bill.
Woodruff said he couldn't see how it could possibly be interpreted to
affect the Agency and added that the expressed intent of the members
was that it was not to interfere with programs presently being conducted.

Monday - 15 December 1969
1. I Talked to Mr. Ed Braswell, Senate Armed
Services Committee staff, who advised that he would appreciate the
SS-9 paper as early as possible this morning for background information
for Senator John Stennis (D., Miss.) in preparation for the anticipated
debate on the Defense Appropriations bill later in the day. Mr. Braswell
noted in passing that he did not know whether the Senate would go into
secret session in the debate.
2. I I was unable throughout the day to get
in touch with Jay Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate Internal Security
Subcommittee, to inform him that would be available 25X1C
Wednesday, the morning of 17 December, or to make arrangements
for him to meet with one of our people who know o discuss areas 25X1C
on which should be questioned.
3. Mr. Neil Wetterman, Investigator,
House Committee on Internal Securit 1came to the Agency to acquire any
information he could o who is an applicant for employment
with the Committee. I checked with in the Office of Security,
later in the day and informed Mr. Wetterman that we have no derogatory
information.
4. Delivered to Ed Braswell, Senate Armed
Services Committee staff, information he had earlier requested on SS-9
deployment for the information of Chairman Stennis in connection with
today's upcoming floor action on the Defense Appropriations bill.

one of our people discuss with him prior to Wednesday the general
outline of what informationimight furnish.
2. In response to her earlier conversation with
Mr. Don Steininger, ADD/S&T, I called Miss Dorothy Fosdick, Staff
Director of the Senate Subcommittee on National Security and Inter-
national Operations, and advised that Mr. Richard N. Perle, who
recently joined the Subcommittee staff, does not hold the proper
clearances to sit in on Mr. Duckett's briefing tomorrow morning.
Miss Fosdick indicated that this would not be a problem and that an
appropriate request will be made later for clearances for Mr. Perle.
3. Met with Senator Abraham Ribicoff
and provided him with a blind memo on I in response
to the Senator's earlier request to the Director. See Memo for Record
for details.
