SUBJECT: Telephone Conversation with Dr. Thomas Paine, Acting
Administrator, NASA
Dr. Paine called me via the black line to inquire about
FMSAC's briefing to Nixon's Space Task Force headed by
Dr. Townes. He wanted to know if we had gotten a good story
across to them. I told him that we pointed out that the Russian
program was not only oriented toward being first but was very
scientifically based and that they had an extensive and diversified
program. Dr. Paine expressed his thanks and seemed quite pleased.
