?[DT71 R0051 0A000300180035-6 Approved For Release 2006/01/1 E" SPEECH ANALYSIS SYSTEM ACTION COMPONENT: The processing of recorded speech tapes for intelligence is a major Agency function. The problem of analyzing a growing num- ber of speech tapes is further complicated by the difficult and often impossible task of extracting intelligence from noisy speech signals produced by transmission interference and intentional jamming. The plan is to consolidate the various processing and analysis tools which have and are being developed into an analyst-oriented system in which the man-machine interface design will provide the analyst with great flexibility in choosing the processing options available to him. This system will be analyst-oriented in that the man-machine interface design will provide the analyst with great flexibility in choosing the processing options available to him. Much will depend upon the analyst, task and the type of speech signal being processed. Being a real-time and on-line processing system, the analyst can quickly reach an optimal processing strategy based on a sampling of the various signal conditioning functions available to him.
