Approved For Release 2001/08/(W6F 0Pi1iO& aO.R000300040004-2 UNITED STATES ARYLS CONTROL AND DISARMAMENT AGENCY October 26, 1966 MEMORANDUM Senior Intelligence Officer, Arms Control and Disarmament Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 FROM: Mr. Richard N. Brill Deputy Assistant Director, Economics Bureau U. S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency SUBJECT: Study of the East German Financial System REFERENCE: CIA. Control No. 4290 '. is is to acknowledge receipt today of two copies of your report on The East German Financial System. So far have gad a chance to give it only a rapid perusal but c impression is that it is an informative and well-organized report. We are grateful for the Agency's assistance in ,ulling this material together, as it was generally agreed ynen the descriptive studies were launched that an East Garman report could not be done outside, from wholly unclassified sources. As soon as the Columbia University reports are com- eted for the Polish, Hungarian, and Czech financial systems, we would appreciate an opportunity to discuss this East European reset:rch with your specialists, to review accomplishments to date and to consider what more needs to be done as background for verification procedures. We anticipate completion of this phase of the Columbia project by the end of 1966.
