Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/06/25: CIA-RDP72-00039R000100450001-9 1, r. P ?L IS, q 10 April 1970 Re: Action Cable #892)+-A -- Disposal of Array Docu?r.ent. Action: Extensive checking throughout the Agency has not found the recipients of the subject Army documents. This Cable requests action in Para 2: "Request that the Basic Documents and Changes be destroyed and a Certificate of Destruction covering all copies ... be submitted to ... Department of Army Attn: ACSI-8:." Until the Agency finds the documents, which it may or may not have received, we cannot send a destruction Certification to the Army. I suggest this Cable be sent to Office of Security for Action. I spoke with in the Security Executive Staff and he said he -would qo into the matter if I would send him a copy of the Cable. Background: 1. In January 1970 a publication "Washington Monthly" had an article by Christopher Pyle, a former Army intelligence employee, concerning records at Fort Holabird on Civil disturbances and individuals involved. In March 1970, "Time Magazine" had a major article about the Armed Forces spying on U.S. citizens with a Fort Holabird computer. The American Civil Liberties Union and Congress became interested and inquired into the matter. 2. The attached Cable is from the Army and requests disposal of two volumes they published --- (1) Civil Disturbances and Dissidence; Cities and Organizations of Interest, (2) Personalities of Interest. There were 6 changes to the publications disseminated between 7 May 1968 and 15 October 1969. The attached Cable states its addressees received those documents. No one here has seen them. 3. I have checked in vain with the following Agency Components which might have these recent documents if they came to this Agency: Emergency Planning Office, SSS Magazine Building Security Operations Division Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/06/25: CIA-RDP72-00039R000100450001-9 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/06/25: CIA-RDP72-00039R000100450001-9 Security Investigations and Operations Support Central Reference Service, DDI issemina or of Army Publications) (She checked her Counterpart in DDP/RID) Executive Registry, DCI CI Special Operations Cable Secretariat issemina lon of non-CIA Cables) 4. I feel that this Cable was processed through the Agency Cable system whereas the documents in question were processed through the mail system and the two systems are guided by different minds, priorities, and interpretations. I suggest we close this case in SSS. Security for your consideration. 5. Attached is a proposed transmittal to the Director of Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/06/25: CIA-RDP72-00039R000100450001-9 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/06/25: CIA-RDP72-00039R000100450001-9 Next Next 1 Page(s) In Doc Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/06/25: CIA-RDP72-00039R000100450001-9 ument Denied
