I thought you would be interested in seeing a galley of
ABEL by Louise Bernikow which will be published by Trident
Press in May.
The author, Louise Bernikow, received her B.A. from Barnard
in 1961 and her M.A., with honors, from Columbia. She has
almost completed her Ph.D. at Columbia. She has also studied
at Oxford and the University of Madrid and she received a
Fulbright for research in Spain. She is currently teaching
two courses at the Julliard School in New York and writing.
ABEL is her first book.
Miss Bernikow became interested in Rudolph Abel through her
friend, Burt Silverman, a painter who had known the "Master
Spy." She was intrigued by the discrepancy that seemed to
exist between Mr. Silverman's sympathetic portrayal of the
man and his notorious reputation. Miss Bernikow spent two
and a half years on her research and even traveled to Moscow
in 1967 in an attempt to meet Abel.
I hope you enjoy the book. We would certainly appreciate
receiving any comments you care to make on it.

Remarks;
Rock: I have glanced very rapidly through
this and can find nothing too unsettling. On
page 60 the author has Allen Dulles' first name
misspelled, and is it true that he flew up to New
York to see Hayhanen? She also goes at length
into the story about Hayhanen's death, quoting
me accurately ezitaugh. ;'This starts on page 182.
The: Director hasp acknowledged receipt of
this, manuscxiptt,rr and Lam inclined to think that
no comment, is required but would like your
thoughts.
