Miss Peggy Murphy, Administrative Assistant to Representative er-ram odell (D. , N. Y. ), called on behalf of a personal friend of the Congressman who wanted to pass information to the Government, presumably while he is temporarily abroad. Based on the fragmentary information known to Miss Murphy and a discussion with F DP, I recommended to Miss Murphy that she get in touch with Mr. William Dyees, on the Czech desk, Department of State, and to contact 25XF5X' A 2. Messrs. Woodruff, Braswell, and Preston of the Agency subcommittee staffs spent the morning at Headquarters where they were briefed by the Director and Chief, FE Division on the situation in Southeast Asia and discussed with other Agency officers the effect of the Fu.ibright amendment on Agency projects in that area. See Memorandum for the Record. 3. Al Tarabochia, Senate Internal Security Subcommittee staff, called and asked if we could identify a publication titled "Directory of Personalities of the Cuban Government. Official Organizations and Mass Organizations. " dated June 1970.. Mr. Tarabochia indicated that it was his understanding that the book is unclassified. If available they would very much appreciate a copy for private use of the Subcommittee staff. Office of DDI has been advised. 4. Talked to DC/WH, who gave me a general defensive briefing on present conditions in Chile for use in briefing Mr. Garner J. (Internal Use Only - JMM) Talked to Ed Braswell, Chief of Staff, Senate Armed Services Committee, who said Senator Stennis had definitely gotten the message of the Director's call the week before last, but Braswell will remind Stennis when he is in touch with him in the next day or two that the Director still hopes to have a word with him, at least by phone, in the near future. 2. (Internal Use Only - JMM) Called Ed Braswell of Senate Armed Services Committee, Frank Slatinshek of House Armed Services Committee, and Ralph Preston of House Appropriations Committee, to set up a meeting at Headquarters tomorrow to discuss our problems in Southeast Asia in view of the Fulbright Amendment. Slatinshek is unavailable but the others, together with Bill Woodruff of the Senate Appropriations Committee, will meet with us at 9:30 a. m. tomorrow. 3. (Internal Use Only - JMM) Richard G. Capen, Jr. , Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs, and General James F. Lawrence, his deputy, visited Headquarters for lunch with Messrs Houston, 1 and me. During our conversation Capen was interested in when the Director had seen or would see Senator Russell, remarking that Secretary Laird wanted to see the Senator as soon thereafter as possible. 4. (Unclassified - GLC) Miss Judy Hoffman o 1-1 - Senator Gaylord A. Nelson ~ n e staff of STATINTL (D. Wis. ), called to say that had called their office referring to several Newsweek articles about CIA soldiers of fortune and said he wanted to contact the Agency about a job with us.
