Approved For Release 2006/09/25: CIA-RDP72-00337R0Q100130016-7 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD 13 June 1969 SUBJECT: Briefing by Mr. Carl Duckett, DDS&T, of Senator Clifford P. Case (R. , N. J.) on Soviet MIRV 1. Today I accompanied Mr. Duckett who briefed Senator Case an the above and related .matters in response to the Senator's request. 2. After covering the MIRY problem, Mr. Duckett responded to a number of the Senator's questions regarding not only technical aspects of the MIRY but the SS-9 system generally and also matters relating to verification in the event of an arms limitation agreement with the Soviets. 3. At the outset we carefully emphasized to Senator Case the security problems involved and he assured us he understood the situation and would take care to guard our information accordingly. 4. Toward the end of our discussion the Senator asked Mr. Duckett to review an outline containing points which were apparently based on our answers to the "20 questions" which had been levied upon us by the Gore Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in April. S. In conclusion Senator Case expressed his appreciation to Mr. Duckett and, through us, to the Director. He said he had great confidence in the Agency and Mr. Duckett and the Director, and congratulated them on their forthcoming and knowledgeable briefings on these complicated matters. 6. Mr. Duckett and I share the impression that Senator Case approached the problem in a conscientious and thoughtful manner and was genuinely impressed with the briefing.
