1. (Unclassified - JMM) Mr. David Abshire and Mr. Harry
Symmes, Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State
for Congressional Relations, respectively, visited Headquarters for a
luncheon discussion hosted by the Executive Director and covering a
wide range of our mutual problems in dealing with the Hill.
2. (Unclassified - GLC) Dorothy Fosdick, on the staff of the
Senate Subcommittee on National Security and International Operations,
called and asked if our people knew the true name of John Connell, the
author of "The Office: A Study of British Foreign Policy and Its Makers,
1919-1951. " With Mr. Pforzheimer's assistance, I advised Miss Fosdick
Connell's true name was John Henry Robertson. He died on 5 October
1965.
3. (Internal Use Only - LLM) Jack Norpel, Senate Internal
._Secuy Subcommittee staff called and asked if we could supply him with
several unclassified maps of Cuba, Santiago and Havana, for the use of
a member of the Venceremos Brigada who is supplying the Subcommittee
with information. 25X6 STATSPEC
4. (Confidential - GLC) The material which= translated for
Seiator Jackson's use at the meeting was sent
by courier to Dorothy Fosdic , on t e staff of the Senate Subcommittee
on National Security and International Operations.

Monday - 26 October 1970
1. (Secret - GLC) Messrs. John Maury and met
with Bill Woodruff, Counsel, Senate Appropriations Committee, and
discussed the possibility of the Director's visiting Senator Russell in
Georgia and our budget session which has been tentatively scheduled
for 19 November 1970. See Memorandum for the Record.
2. (Confidential - GLC) Met with Mr. Philip W. Morgan, Minority
Counsel, Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee, and discussed
with him Senator McClellan's letter of 16 October 1970 to the Director.

3. (Confidential - GLC) Al Tarabochia, on the staff of the Senate
Internal Security Subcommittee, called and asked for any background 25X1C
information which we might have on two Cubans,
4. (Unclassified - GLC) Picked up from Dorothy Fosdick, Staff
Director, Senate Subcommittee on National Security and International
Operations, a copy of material which Senator Jackson has asked us to
translate. This was passed on to _ STATSPEC
5. (Confidential - JMM) Called Dave Abshire, Assistant Secretary
of State for Congressional Relations, to ask about the status of Senator Case's
inquiry to the Department about Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty.
Abshire said that, pursuant to our discussion last week, he had tried to
get in touch with Case by phone but the Senator was on the campaign trail
and has not been accessible. However Abshire has left word with the
Senator's secretary and expects the Senator to call him shortly. He will
advise us of the results.

5. Confidential - GLC) Talked with Mr. , Office of Security,
and Mr. WH Division, about Mr. proposal
for research of congressional initiative in Latin American affairs. I told
them that we could give Osborne sufficient guidance for any contacts which
he might want to make on the Hill, but defer to WH Division's judgment
as to whether this was a proper topic for - to pursue in his studies
6. (Secret - JGO) Talked to Ralph Preston, House Appropriations
Committee staff, who told me that during his absence OMB had delivered
the Agency budget letter to John Garrity of the staff. Since House action
is completed on the bill, however, the amount set forth therein will have25X1C
no effect on the action already taken by the House.
8. (Internal Use Only - LLM) Based on the advice of
I informed Miss Dorothea Dickinson, in the office of
Representative Louis Wyman (R. , N. H. ), that we would prefer not to
meet with (see Journal of 9 October 1970)
unless the Congressman either had more current information relating to
the - credibility or had made a commitment to the -which
would be difficult to retract. She deferred to the Congressman who called
me from New Hampshire, and while he was most understanding he said
he had already committed himself and I told him that as an accommodation
to him we would meet with the - as been adviped.
