Approved For Release 2005/12/1'CORM'"At00400030007-5 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Tuesday - 9 September 1969 5? Winston Bryant, Legislative Assistant to Senator John L. McClellan (D. , Ark. ), called and asked about the status of the amendments to S.7782 which Senator Ervin had suggested. I advised Bryant that we had worked on these amendments and that they were now in a form which would be acceptable both to NSA and ourselves. I also indicated that we had been in touch with the FBI on these and that the Bureau was holding to its position of requesting a complete exemption from the bill. I explained to Bryant that while we felt a full exemption was a clearer and better approach we could live with the amendments as we had resubmitted them to Larry Conrad. Bryant said that Senator McClellan wanted to help Senator Ervin get the bill out but only if full exemption were granted the FBI, NSA, and ourselves. 25X1 8. Returned the call of Mrs. Dorothy Brown, in the office of Senator Jennings Randolph (D., W. Va. ), and, based upon the advice of the Office of sonnel, told her that we had no record of employment on a F !I about 46 or 47 years of age. Mrs. Brown contacted us apparently as a last straw after failing to obtain usable information from any other agency and wanted to exert every effort on behalf of subjects family which is faced with a personal problem.
