Met with Senator Henry Jackson (D., Wash.)
a. Delivered a personal note from the Director.
b. Brought the Senator up-to-date on the status of
the Ervin bill. The Senator who had been out of town for
bet might be to take up the matter with Senators Russell or
Stennis. I said we were thinking of mentioning our problem
at an early hearing of our Subcommittee. Jackson said this
seemed like a good idea.
C. I recalled that the Senator had mentioned some time
ago that there was a possibility that he might bring Senator
McClellan out for lunch with the Director and commented
in view of Senator McClellan's membership on our Sub-
committee the Director would like to arrange this in the
near future. Senator Jackson said he would be quite busy
this week and would be out of town next week, but tentatively
suggested, Saturday, 1 March. He asked me to let him know
if this was acceptable to the Director in which case he would
try to line up Senator McClellan.

Constitutional Rights Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committe-,
Mr. Houston and. I would appreciate a chance to meet with Senator Ervin
in the near future to discuss certain aspects of his recently introduced b,lj.
Mr. Woodard said the Chairman was out of town until Wednesday but he
would take the matter up with the Chairman at the first opportunity and 25X1
advise.
