6. Received a call from Dick Cook, of the
White House staff,who explained he was handling congressional liaison for
Mr. Timmons, who had passed to him the material we sent Timmons
regarding S. 782 (Ervin bill). Cook said he had discussed the problem
with Ted Kazy, Senior Staff Assistant, House Post Office and Civil Service
Committee, and suggested that I send Kazy a copy of the Director's draft
letter to Chairman Henderson. I commented that technically this would
be "jumping the gun" so far as channels were concerned, but Cook assured
me that Kazy could be trusted in the matter, and said Kazy expected a
call from me.
Pursuant to the above, called Mr. Kazy who said he would be tied
up this afternoon but would be available to meet tomorrow morning. I
told him would call on him then and bring a copy of our draft
letter to Henderson and other material regarding ~5. 782.
