OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Wednesday - 14 January 1970
1. (Unclassified - GLC) Talked with Miss Gerry Sawislak,
in the office of Senator William Proxmire (D., Wis.), about the letter
they had received from Professor Melvin Croan, of the University of
Wisconsin, for certain FBIS area books. I gave Miss Sawislak no
assurance that Professor Croan would be put on the mailing list for
these books but told her that we plan to have an Agency representative
visit him to see if we could be of assistance to him.
2. (Secret - GLC) Hand carried to William Woodruff, on the
staff of the Senate Appropriations Committee, our last withdrawal
letter on the Radios and the Director's letter advising Chairman Russell
that we were contacting the Bureau of the Budget to balance our reserve
account now that our appropriation. has been authorized.
3. (Unclassified - JGO) Received a call from Miss Noble, in
the office of Senator Alan Cranston (D. , Calif.), concerning the request
of a constituent recently released from the military for information
whether the CIA supports or is associated with the Institute of Foreign
Trade in Phoenix, Arizona. I advised Miss Noble that the Institute is
not associated with this Agency. In response to her request, I suggested
several sources of possible information on the Institute.
4. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Met with Mr. J. Garner Cline,
Counsel, House Judiciary Committee, and discussed with him the
various meetings with Representative Joshua Eilberg (D., Pa.) concerning
the Representative's recent trip to the Soviet Union. Mr. Cline advised
that the information he had received back from the Representative indicated
that he was most pleased with the assistance provided by the Agency.
