8. (Unclassified - JMM) Called Representative Durward Hall (R. , Mo. )
in response to his earlier call to the Director. Hall explained that a friend
of his namedi hom he has known personally
for sometime and who is also well acquainted with Representative Rogers
C. B. Morton and Admiral William I. Martin (Deputy and Chief of the U. S.
Atlantic Fleet), is interested in a job perhaps with Air America. He
said -as spent a good deal of time in the Far East and had
certain qualifications which might be of part' interest to the A?47Aifg)-THR
I told Hall I would promptly get in touch wit and arrange
appointments for him to see appropriate people in the Agency.
I then called at his home on the eastern shore of
Maryland. xplained that although he was a qualified pilot he
thought his value to the Agency would go beyond flying duty, since he knew
his way around and could "bring in business. " Although clearl
had Air America in mind, we did not mention Air America as such. I
asked if he was interested in exploring possibilities outside of the aviation
field and he said he would like to look into Agency opportunities across the
board. I told him I would be back in touch this afternoon or tomorrow to
arrange an early appointment with some of our people.
9. (Internal Use Only - JGO) In response to his call, I met
with Mr. Montgomery Winkler, Administrative Assistant to Representative
Charles M. Teague (R., Calif.). Mr. Winkler is a personal friend
of nd is interested in the status of the private bill to
al n obtaining citizenship. Mr. Winkler has been in contact
with Frances Christy of the House Judiciary Committee staff about
the bill. I told Mr. Winkler that there are no problems in the handling
of this bill that we are aware of and that the actual introduction of a
bill is expected about 1 June. Mr. Winkler assured me that his interest
and Representative Teague's interest is to be of help in the case and
expressed his appreciation for my coming by to see him. In parting,
he noted that Represent e would be available for the
introduction of a bill for should anything go awry in the
Committee. (See Journal item of 8 April 1970.)
