Friday - 2 January 1970
1. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, House Appro-
priations Committee staff, and discussed the Agency letter of 31 December
to the Chairman relating to withdrawal from Reserves. Since
Chairman Mahon is away from the city and Mr. Preston will be traveling
with Representatives Frank Bow (R., Ohio), Edward Boland (D., Mass.),
and Sidney Yates (D. , Ill.), Mr. Preston requested that the letter be held
for safekeeping until his return to the city on the 12th. Also discussed a
visit to the Agency by Mr. Preston for briefing during the week of the 12th.
We will determine the exact day after his return to the city.
I briefed Mr. Preston on the following items:
a. Soviet military in outer Mongolia;
b. continuing strong ChiCom propaganda against Moscow;
c. North Vietnamese activities in Laos.
2. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Received a call from Mr. Dave Muchow,
on the staff of the National Security Council, who inquired whether the Agency
has any form of publication that would assist in providing a daily briefing note
for the National Security Council on congressional highlights (hearings,
committee meetings, etc.) of interest to the Council. I told him we do not.
During the conversation he advised that he will be receiving publications from
DOD, the Air Force, Navy and other departments on daily congressional
