Program Brief: The OSP records program is still in its infancy,
having only been given life through the development of records
control schedules and the basics of a p roam through a survey
and onnthe-spot spade work in February and March of 1967. Since
that time, records have been retired to the Center. There needs
to be Vital Records Deposit Schedules developed for OSP, which at
the time of the surveyiere not prepared because OSP was in a state
of formulation and shake down, and precise protection for its
records was not determinable. It can be said, however, that the
OSP program shows encouraging signs of moving forward, mainly
because of a bright and energetic RMO, whose native ability and
drive more than compensates for his lack of professional records
background. He is still pursuing external enrichment programs
in that he is working toward an AB degree. Another factor is that
the present Chief, Support Branch, Program Administration Division,
is records management oriented and is a prime mover in the shaping
and implementation of an OSP program. Unforthmately, the OSP`1fRM
is also 8hief of the OSP Registry, and is restricted as to the time
he can devote to the program. It is quite likely that more direct
assistance by the Records Administration Branch, SSS, will be needed
to get this fledgling program off the ground, but this attention
will be profitable and justified.
