Purpose of trip - The purpose of the trip was two-fold., a. To review the status of the IR launch detector program with Aerojet. b. To visit LAC, Van Nuys and Buabank, to enable the ITT representative to become familiar with the vehicles. 2, The visit to Aerojet revealed that the manpower build-up to support the effort is now sufficient. Loading for the past two months wasn't considered to be at an appropriate level. An order has been placed for the detectors, and raw material for the lenses is on order. It appears that the only long lead item yet to be ordered is the torquer for the scanner. The release of the specification for this item is expected shortly. Review of the drawings indicates that only one casting will be needed. The casting is not complex in nature and will therefore require very little time in the pattern shop. Decision has been made to use Texas Instruments digital modules. The modules will be integrated on P. C. boards. System logic design is completed and detail design is in progress. Integrated circuit modules for preamps, filters, AGC amps and triggers will probably be used in the prototype system. It was indicated that there would be no change in price or delivery if they are used. These packages are designed and manufactured by Aerojet. Aerojet has requested that the project officer be present to witness these circuits in operation and to make a firm decision on their utilization at that time.
