SUBJECT : Office of Security Cable Requirements
REFERENCE Your memorandum dated 2 December 1968,
Subject: Request for Cable Information
1. A survey of the cable requirements-for the Office of Security
disclosed that with one exception there is very little or no requirements
for reference service. A one year time span for retrieval and a five
year retention period is desired. The present service is considered
excellent.
2. Concerning the exception, one of our staffs deals directly
with RID and the CI Staff, and therefore such requests for cables are
not reflected in your report of cable activity in the DDS for the month
of October. This staff indicated a continuing service requirement, a
time span of 15 years for retrieval and a preferred retention period of
twenty-five years.
3. The above comments apply only to the normal CIA cable
traffic and not to the cable traffic which is transmitted within special
compartmented secure systems.
