CHIEF HONORED BY THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS McCone Awarded Hoover Medal For Community, Government Contributions New York, New York -- John A. McCone, Director, Central Intelligence Agency, was awarded today the Hoover Medal at the 1964 Winter Annual Meeting of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The medal, given for outstanding contributions in public service, reflects the humanitarian efforts of the first recipient of the award, Herbert Hoover. The award is jointly sponsored by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, The American Society of Civil Engineers and The American Institute of Mining Engineers. Past recipients of the Hoover Medal include General Dwight D. Eisenhower, James R. Killian, Jr., Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., and Charles F. Kettering. ? Den Hartog, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, M.I.T.; .Hugh L. Dryden, Deputy Administrator, National Aeronautics and Space Administration; James N. Landis, Vice President, Bechtel Corporation, and Glenn B. Warren, a consulting engineer. Allan Howard, General Manager, Gas Turbine Department, General Electric Company was awarded the 1964 ASME Medal for his outstanding accomplishments in gas turbine technology as engineer, pioneer and manager. The 85th Winter Annual Meeting of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, held at the Statler Hilton Hotel, is the largest technical meeting of its kind in the United States.
