The University of Pennsyl-
vania has said it "has no knowl-
edge" of any Central Intelli.?
gence Agency people on its cam-
pus or faculty in answer to a
I:charge made Tuesday in Wash-
ington by Congressman Adam
Clayton Powell.
f ? Powell said he received "tin-
verified information" that CIA
. personnel were associated with
the university.' and the Massa-
chusetts Institute of Technology.
Powell made the charge in an-
nouncing a probe by the staff
of the House Education .and
, Labor Committee, which he
heads, of CIA contacts at
Michi-
gan State University.
He said his son, an employe
of a television network, told
him the intelligence agency had,
been connected with an MIT,
project. On April 26, Dr. Max
Milliken, director of the MIT
Center of International Studies,
said the college would reluctant-.
ly 'drop research contracts with,
the CIA because they were sub-;
ject to misinterpretation.
"There never was? a secret",
about the contracts, Milliken!
said. The contracts were for re-,
search. on international develop-,
.ments, particularly Communism;
and ?China,
"And just today," Powell said,
"I received an anonymous let.
ter listing names said to be of
CIA people on the campus and,
faculty of the University of:
Pennsylvania." ? 1
Powell said Dr. Eunice Matl
thew, education chief of thes
committee, would conduct the
inquiry, beginning at once. I
