I I Called Bill Lewis, Administrative Assistant, in the office of Senator Margaret Chase Smith (R., Me.), and asked if he would inform Senator Smith that the papers she had requested on Pakistan and Cuba had been included with the copy of the Director's statement before the Senate Armed Services Committee last Thursday, and that this information was being held in the Committee's office by Mr. Braswell. Lewis said he would inform the Senator of this. 4. Met with Mr. Arthur Kuhl, Senate Foreign Relations Committee sta f, who requested that I make direct contact with the Ward and Paul reporting firm to make the necessary security arrangements for the Director's briefing of the Committee scheduled for 23 March. Mr. Kuhl will arrange to have the room open at 8:00 a. in. to allow a sweep of the hearing room on the morning of the briefing. He 5. I Met with Miss Caro;. Tuchmann, Administrative Assistant to Ogden Reid (R. , N. Y. ),and gave her copies of German news media treatment of RFE and RL. Miss Tuchmann expressed the opinion that the material would be of interest to Mr. Reid. 6. Met with Mr. Frank Slatinshek, Assistant Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, who told me that Mr. Robert Moot, DOD Comptroller, is furnishing an outline for the Chairman of their part of the intelligence budget that would include NRO but not identify the CIA budget. Mr. Slatinshek had no further information on a date for CIA briefing but feels that the Committee already has a full plate for next week. 7. I I Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, and gave him an updated outline It hat was requested by airman Mahon at the Director's briefing o and 3 March. I also discussed briefly with Mr. Preston the Armed Services Committee conversations concerning DOD authorization legislation.
