(Confidential - JGO) Met with Art Kuhl, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, and Colonel Howard Anderson, USAF escort officer, and discussed their forthcoming round-the-world trip with Senator and Mrs. Symington. The Senator has indicated that he would like to leave Wednesday, 15 December, and tentatively plans for briefings in Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Taiwan, Philippines, Khmer Republic (Cambodia), Thailand, India, Pakistan, Iran, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Austria, Germany, France and Belgium. As appropriate, the Senator desires briefings by the ambassador, the military Travel will be commercial except where commercial is not available. It was requested if possible that Kuhl and Anderson attend briefings arranged for the Senator. I told them I would advise them later on this point. It was agreed that contact would be made through at all stops where such briefings are desired by the Senator and that I would alert our station personnel at each of the stops to expect a possible request for briefing. Kuhl was apologetic that the travel plans at present are so indefinite. He is not sure that the itinerary will be firmed up prior to departure from Washington. 9. (Confidential - JGO) After talking to Mr. Duckett, DDS&T, concerning the Navy testimony scheduled for this morning before the Investi- gating Subcommittee of House Armed Services Committee, I talked to John Reddan, of the Subcommittee staff, who reaffirmed that the Subcommittee is not interested in any prior use or operation of the equipment in question. (See Journal of 8 December) I in turn reaffirmed for him that the Agency was not in any fashion controlling the testimony of the Navy witnesses. Reddan called me late in the day and told me that the hearing was a good one and had gone off without incident. He expressed the Chairman's appreci tt$0n for the Agency's assistance in this matter. WH 10. (Confidential - JGO) Received a call from Division, who told me that the Division has received a request : rom CI for information on two Soviet officers stationed in South America for transmittal to INR/State Department to Representative Dante Fascell, of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
