4. I met separately with Russ Blandford and
Frank Slatinshek, House Armed Services Committee staff. Mr, Blandford
asked if I would check to see if there was anything to the Philadelphia
Bulletin Horst column of 25 July concerning CIA and the Pentagon papers.
Mr. Blandford noted he didn't think that there was anything to it but he
would appreciate our confirmation if such is the case.
In connection with the briefing indicated below, Mr. Slatinshek
asked whether the present information on new missile silos in the Soviet
Union is consistent with the briefings and forecasts given the Committee
in January.
T briefed Messrs. Blandford and Slatinshek on the following items:
Soviet tactical aircraft in the Chinese border area; ChiCom/Soviet border
negotiations; ChiCom/Pakistani agreement; Soviet destroyer at Singapore;
Sudan; Soviet "J" vehicle, Y-class submarines, new missile silos; drug
refineries in the triborder area; ChiCom Luta-class missile destroyer
construction; Egyptian N]1G;-21 aircraft in Syria; and low-level military
activity along the Suez.
5. Met with Mr. James Wilson, House Science
and Astronautics Committee staff, and briefed him on the Soviet "J" vehicle.
6, Met with Mr. Norman .Cornish, Foreign
O erations and Government Information Subcommittee staff and briefed
him orally on information available concerning
Mr, Cornish was mast appreciative. He alao told me about a meeting
last week with Gregoriy Rapota, Press Attache, Soviet Embassy in
Washington. Mr. :R,apota. was particularly interested in testimony before
the Subcommittee concerning USIA activities and expenditure of funds in
Vietnam and the- views of the members about these activities. I suggested
to Mr. Cornish that the detail of such a visit is of prime interest to the
FBI and that it would be well if he call them. He said that he would.
On another subject, Mr. Cornish asked if the Agency could shed
any light on a particular item which is included in a rather extensive
testimony on foreign currency activities. An item has been identified

1. Received a call from Mr. Norman
Cornish, House Foreign-Operations and Government Information Sub-
committee staff, who told me the Committee has been visited by a
member of the Soviet Embassy. He said that he would be glad to fill me
in at my convenience during the coming week.
2, Received a call from Mr. Cliff
Hackett, European Subcommittee staff of House Foreign Affairs Committee,
who told me that he was interested in receiving copies of a CIA publication

utilized in overseas stations and is not available for distribution in Washingtoni.
Mr. Hackett indicated that he had heard about the publication from an
individual who recently returned from the U. S. Embassy in Moscow.
3. Mr. Bernfeld, in the office of
Representative George Danielson (D. ,Calif. ), called concerning a
letter from a constituent who had read in the Los Angeles Times that
the Agency was erecting a huge building outside of Washington, D. C.
I requested that Mr, Bernfeld refer the letter to this office and we
would make inquiries and advise him.
4. Larry Bowles, in the office of
Representative Charles Jonas (R. , N. C. }, called and requested that
employment brochures and application forms be sent directly to a

Senator Adlai Stevenson liI (D., Ill. }, and made a date for Mr. Carver to
brief the Senator and him.in connection with the Senator's upcoming trip
to Vietnam and Thailand. The briefing is set for 2:30 p. m. on 2$ July.
