Mr. Joseph Wolf, Department of State, called with reference to letters sent out to various departments and agencies request- ing witnesses to appear before Senator Church's Subcommittee to discuss the situation in Brazil. He commented that the Pentagon has agreed to have the MAG chief testify but will not bring back the Defense attache. He said they are taking the position that any intelligence briefing should come from the Agency. I told him that the Director was scheduled to testify before this group on 5 May hearings. Wolf asked if I knew what the Subcommittee was trying to get at. I told him I was not too clear on this but I would look into it. He said they would appreciate any information we could give them which would avoid any conflict in testimony by the various witnesses. 9. Spoke briefly with Mr. James Gehrig, Staff Director, Senate Aeronautical and Space Sciences Committee, by phone in ,connection with the Soyuz 10 flight. I alluded to the problems which the flight encountered and told him I would brief him in greater detail tomorrow. 10. Met with Representative Michael Harrington and gave him a copy of a map utilized in the Director's briefing of House Armed Services Committee to show political boundaries in Indochina.
