12, Mr. Slaton, of the Social Security
Administration, called and I answered his questions concerning the CIA
Retirement Act, specifically on the payment of interest on refunds and lump
sum payments and appropriations for unfunded liability.
13. Met with Nick Van Nelson, in the office
of Representative Charles Bennett (D. , Fla. ), in connection with the employment
application of I Mr. Van Nelson said he clearly understood our
position and felt that the letter to Mr. Bennett which I gave him would satisfy
their interest.
14. In the absence of Representative Thomas J
Me skill (R., Conn.) from the city, spoke with Louis Andrews on an inquiry on
the Downey case which had been referred to the Department of State. Andrews
will let us know if Mr. Meskill is interested in meeting with us. Arrangements
to deal directly with Mr. Meskill on this was coordinated with Skip White, in
the Legislative Affairs Office, Department of State. Meskill is a personal
friend of Downey and has a continuing interest in the status of the case.
