He referred to the Evans and Novak column which appeared in the Washington Post on 24 March on the subject of the Soviet backfire in Mexico. Sourwine said the Subcommittee is interested in doing a documented study or hearing on this subject even if it says no more than was contained in the Evans and Novak column. Sourwine added he was not sure we were the ones he should contact on this, but asked if we would look into it and give him our advice about it. He said if it was our opinion that nothing should be done then they would accept that decision. I told him I would check on it and be back in touch with him. 3. 1 V.n the absence of Ed Braswell, I talked with Jack !ricer, on the 'enrmed Services Committee staff, about the draft legislation to amend section 5232 of title 10 of the U. S. Code having to do with appointments to the grade of general in the Marine Corns. Ticer confirmed that the draft bill had been received, but said it had not been formally introduced. Braswell has talked with Ticer about the legislation indicating that their present position is to await House action on the legislation. 2. 1 4. 1 1 Accompanied the Director and Messrs.
