Approved For Release 2002/08/01 : CIA-RDP73B00296R000300080036-2 JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Wednesday - 15 September 1971 1. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, who told me that the Chairman's and the Committee's time is so taken with material relating to the Department of Ar;ny that they have little time for anything else. He is holding a tickler, however, and will call me whenever he has the time to join him in a review of documents relating to the Agency on defense matters that are held in Committee files. I thanked Mr. Preston and told him I would be available to assist whenever his schedule will allow. I reviewed with him the 9 September memorandum on the Soviet Backfire aircraft. He asked that the memorandum be held for ?ossible future call for his discussion with Chairman Mahon. I briefed Mr. Preston on Chinese mounded strong points and border defense systems; and recent developments in Soviet ICBM and ABM programs. 2. (Secret - JGO) I met with Mr. Frank Slatinshek, Assistant Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, who told me that he expects to meet with Representative Nedzi (D. , Mich.) tomorrow or possibly Friday to discuss the new Subcommittee on Intelligence with him. At that time they will be taking up the question of a visit to the Agency. Mr. Slatinshek will call after he talks to Representative Nedzi. I discussed with Mr. Slatinshek the 9 September memorandum on the Soviet Backfire aircraft. Mr. Slatinshek asked if I would verify the combat radius of the aircraft where in flight refueling is used. The memorandum was returned to the Agency. I briefed Mr. Slatinshek on Chinese mounded strong points and border defense systems; and recent developments in Soviet ICBM and ABM programs. 3. (Secret - GLC) Met with Bill Woodruff, Counsel, Senate Appro- priations Committee, and briefed him on recent developments in the Soviet ICBM and ABM programs. At his request I also provided Woodruff with copies of papers which we had prepared for Senator Stennis and Ed Braswell on Laos. SECRET Approved For Release 2002/08/01 : CIA-RDP73B00296R000300080036-2
