GLC) Having been advised by Cover Division that DOD would not have sufficient time to clear the transcript of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee on the efore it was returned to 25X1 the Committee, I called Mrs. Frances Fun c, on the Committee staff, and told her if there was any question about this in connection w:.th future publication of a sanitized version of the transcript to let me know. She 25X1A said she would confirm that General Westmoreland's response to Senator Symington's question about intelligence activities on of the transcript) was deleted and would be in touch with us if there was anything further. While they are sanitizing the transcript they do not plan immediate publication of the testimony. 2. GLC) In a conversation with him Jack. Ticer, on the staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said that fro-In their standpoint the hearing on General Cushman's nomination had gone well this morning, that CIA matters did not come up, and that the nomination had been ordered favorably reported. 3. GLC) Jim Ludlum called to say that John Ingersoll, Director, Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, planned to meet with Representative Paul Rogers (D., Fla.) in the next few days to brief him on allegations that the Chinese Communist were secretly encouraging drug traffic in Southeast Asia. Ludlum said there was no real evidence to support this claim and added that he would send us a copy of the statemeat which w?TAT were giving Ingersoll for his use in briefing Rogers.
