5. (Secret - JMM) Met with Frank Slatinshek, Assistant Chief
Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, whom I briefed on recent
developments regarding the Soviet ICBM program, ChiCom aircraft production,
and cutbacks in Cuban support of revolutionary groups in Latin. America.
We discussed briefing Chairman Nedzi, of the Intelligence Subcommitl
on Agency matters and agreed the desirable procedure would be for him and
other Subcommittee members to visit the Agency for an introductory description
of the intelligence community by the Director, followed by Colonel White's
comments on the organization of the Agency and a brief statement by several
of the Deputies regarding their particular responsibilities.
Slatinshek feels we would have to answer any of Nedzi's questions
regarding the budget, personnel strength and broad programs, but should
avoid particularly sensitive individual operational activities.

6. (Secret - GLC) After conferring with FI Staff,
I advised External Affairs Division, _DIA, that the Agency
had no objection to D 's providing extracts of the Defense Intelligence
Collection Manual which do not include CIA material or the definitions.
On the other point which he raised yesterday, I suggested that DIA avoid
specific references to the Agency and merely advise Chairman Moorhead
that the document itself was not being provided since it contained sensitive
intelligence information involving sources and methods. will discuss
this with DOD L&L but feels it can be handled along these lines. I also
recommended that if DOD communicates with Moorhead in writing they 25X1A
also discuss the matter personally with him.
7. (Secret - GLC) Met with Bill Woodruff, Counsel, Senate Appropri
tions Committee, and briefed him on a number of current intelligence items.
(See Memo for the Record)
We discussed briefly the fact that a number of pieces of legislation
now pending in the Senate would be coming up when Congress reconvenes.
Woodruff said he thought it would be useful if the Director discussed the
impact of these bills with Senator Ellender since they are sure to be discussed
in the Democratic Policy Committee.
8. (Secret - GLC) Met with Dorothy Fosdick, Staff Director, Subco:n
mittee on National Security and International Operations, and brought her up-
to-date on the latest information concerning ICBM silos in the Soviet Union and
SAM sites near the Suez Canal. Miss Fosdick thanked me for the information
and asked that we continue to keep her informed so that she could keep Senator
Jackson up-to-date.
