Friday - 3 September 1971
1. (Internal Use Only - LLM) of DC, called
to advise us of a request by the Government Accounting Office for an
NIS in connection with an audit of an AID project in Ghana. I
recommended to that the request be submitted to the DDI
but told him that from our standpoint release of Agency material to the
Government Accounting Office, which is an investigating arm of the
Congress, involves a delicate question of precedent. Mr. Wattles,
Assistant Deputy Director for Support, was advised of the pending
GAO request.
2. (Internal Use Only - LLM) On referral fromi STAT
USIB, received a call from Mr. Hugh Wolff, Library of Congress, who
said he was doing a paper on the intelligence community and was having
difficulty in locating specific statutes, executive orders, or other
basis for (a) USIB and its subcommittee structure, and (b) the role of
the Director as principal intelligence adviser for the Government. I
told Mr. Wolff I thought we could work up some material for him to TATINTL
answer his questions and that we would be back in touch. In the interest
of keeping this in normal liaison channels, I advisedi TATfNTL
Librarian, of this call and he said he would follow through.
