Abshire said his office had learned of the release only today when they
had made another one of their series of calls to the Senator offering
to brief him in response to his letter to the Secretary of 8 October.
Abshire said since receiving this letter he had repeatedly- -at least
seven times--offered to brief the Senator on a classified basis but for
some reason the briefing had not come off. Abshire said the last occasion
when he brought the matter up was New Years Eve, and Case's response
at that time left the impression that Case had decided to drop the matter.
Abshire feels that nothing more can be done at this stage.
