Approved For Release 2005/11/2~~Qfor"RE000500110011-3 JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Wednesday - 24 March 1971 1.1 called to say that Fred Flott, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Department of State, had mentioned to him that over the weekend he had talked to a group in New York on American Policy in Southeast Asia. The group included Representative Lester Wolff (D., N.Y.). Flott said Wolff made a comment to the effect that he was concerned about CIA involvement in the making of foreign policy. Flott said the meeting was covered by the press, but he has seen nothing in the papers mentioning it. Flott merely wanted to let us know of Wolff's remarks. I told Wolff was well known to us, but we appreciated this piece of information. 2. Talked briefly with Mr. Frank Slatinshek, Assistant Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, who was tied up continuously in meetings throughout the day. Mr. S.latinshek has no additional questions for response by the Director for tomorrow's briefing of the full Committee. 0 CONFIDENTIAL 25X1 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2005/11/21: CIA-RDP73B00296R000500110011-3 Approved For Release 2005/11/21,.:CIA-RDP73B00296R000500110011-3 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Friday - 19 March 1971 3. Met with Chairman F. Edward Hebert, House Armed Services Committee, and reviewed plans for Thursday's briefing by the Director of the full Armed Services Committee. Mr. Hebert said he would like to have all the subjects which I suggested covered, plus the situation in Ecuador and Soviet R&D. I pointed out this might run to nearly three hours. Hebert said in this case he would hold off any questions until the full briefing had been completed, and we would return after lunch to answer questions. He said the Committee policy was to give each member r five minutes for questions and this would run to nearly three and a half hou if all took advantage of it, but he was in no position to deviate from this rule. Talked to Mr. Earl Morgan, House Armed Services Committee staff, several times during the day about the Committee program for the coming week. It was finally agreed that the Director will be scheduled for Thursday, 25 March, and other items on the Committee agenda were rearranged to accommodate the Director's availability on 25 March. Mr. Morgan ilpp relayed a Committee request for inclusion of Soviet R&D and its costs in dollars. has been 7. Met with Mrs. Elsie Thornton, House Post Office and Civil Service Committee staff, and received from her a copy of the Committee on Post Office and-Civil Service Subcommittee appointments. 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2005/11/21' 3B00296R000500110011-3 25X1 Approved For Release 2005/11/21 : CIA-RDP73B00296R000500110011-3 Approved For Release 2005/11/21: CIA-RDP73B00296R000500110011-3
