(Confidential - JMM) Called the office of Representative Herman Badillo for an appointment and was told by his Administrative Assistant Paul Schasberg? that he was then on the floor, and planned to catch a 4:30 p. m. plane for New York but I might catch him around 4:00 if I waited in his office. While waiting in his office, he called his secretary to say he was going directly to the airport and would be unable to see me until his return "early next week. " 7. (Confidential - JMM) Called John Lehman, in the White House, to say that the Director was preparing a letter to Dr. Kissenger giving our comments on Senator Stennis' letter to the President and its implications, and to suggest that we hold off any further discussion of this problem until this letter was received. Mr. Lehman agreed. 8. (Secret - JGO) Met with Mr. Arthur Kuhl, Chief Clerk, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who told me that the Committee discussed briefly Senator Cooper's (R. , Ky.) bill (S. 2225) which would require reporting of intelligence information to the Congress but no determination was made as to hearings and other future considerations. There is nothing of interest to the Agency scheduled for consideration before the Committee at this time. Mr. Kuhl also gave me a copy of the 28 July 1971 "Nomination Reference and Renort" of annointments and promotions within the Foreign Service. 9. (Confidential - JGO) Met with Miss Fran Christy, House Immigration and Naturalization Subcommittee staff, and Mr. Neil Leary, Immigration Naturalization Service, Department of Justice, with re and to the Committee. record concerning private relief bill for Immigration Naturalization Service has furnished an updated report for Committee use in consideration of the bill.. furnished earlier in the year.
