6. (Confidential - JGO) Met with Mr. John Reddan, Counsel,
My Lai Special Investigation Subcommittee, House Armed Services
Committee, who told me that General Cushman's appearance had gone
quite well and had included some difficult areas of questioning.
7. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Met with Charles Johnson, Staff
Director, House Past Office and Civil Service Committee, and reviewed
the current status of S. 782 with him. In brief, he feels it would be
well if we were to touch base with each of the Subcommittee members
before the Subcommittee meets on the bill. I thanked him for his advice.
8. (Secret - JGO) Met with Frank Slatinshek, Assistant Chief
Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, and briefed him on the
Vietnamese infiltration rate for June, Soviet intercept squadron defense
mission in Egypt, Cambodian political situation, and the Soyuz 9 mission,
Mr, Slatinshek gave me a copy of correspondence between the 25X1
Air Force and Representative Lucien Nedzi (D. , Mich.) concerning
press reports that Soviet long-ran e aircraft fl in into Cuba are not
tracked
9. (Confidential - LLM) Mrs . McCloskey, Immigration and
Naturalization Subcommittee staff, Senate Judiciar Committee, called
in connection with the private bill of and said that
Louise Shurz, of the Immigration an atura izatLOn ervice, had called
them for information relating to the standard INS report to be submitted
to the Subcommittee. Mrs. McCloske asked if we would supply the infor-
mation directl to INS. FE Division, was advised and
later Office o Security, reported that he would be in
touch with INS.

8. (Confidential - LLM) Drury Blair, on the staff of the
Immigration and Naturalization Subcommittee, Senate Judiciary
Committee, called ore ort that Chairman Eastland had introduced
the private bill for
9. (Confidential - LLM) Robert Hor ief Investigator,
House Internal Security Committee, asked if as in a
position to appear before the Committee in open session to provide
testimony along the lines earlier provided in a staff interview. I
explained that in the past such appearances had been in executive session
with publication following our review. He restated the Committee's posi-
tion that from their standpoint open hearing was preferable and assured
that they would abide by all of our instructions and would confine their
questioning to elicit the material already provided by in the staff
interview, deletions as we suggest. In response o my question,
he said that would not be the lead-off witness, that they contemplated
a series of earings, and that he would provide me with the names of the
witnesses lined up to date if I would drop by his office.

11. (Confidential -LLM) Met with Drury Blair, on the staff
of the Immigration and Naturalization Subcommittee, Senate Judiciary
Co uss the introduction of a private immigration bill
for Mr. Blair said he would take it up with Chairman
Eastland and foresaw no problem. in view of the Agency's interest in the
bill, and I left with him a proposed draft bill and supporting material.

12. (Internal Use Only -LLM) Met with Carol Mitchell, Case.
Worker in th Griffin (R. ,Mich. ), concerning
the inquiry o who is interested in employment
as a CIA mercenary as reported in the 13 April issue. of Newsweek. I told
her we were not engaged in the recruitment spelled out in the story. She
said they had many similar inquiries from servicemen in Saigon and I told
her we had received a large number also. In response to her question, I
said I don't know which other agency may be doing the recruiting and her
question may well be attributing to the story accuracy which does not exist.
