1. }:axly i.n ~4arcli, you directed the 1'P13 Staff to "define management
information needs, rc;assess tl~c need for the P}IS, and consider altcinatives".
T'}te attached prel.inti.nary study will bring you up to date on the pro;ress
made so far toward these obj~sti.ves, and will illustrate that we have
reached a point at which a further course of action should be considered.
2. As a first step, the Groups, the PPP. Staff, and the Production
t�ianat e:nent Board were asS:ed to furnish representatives to tvork with Cite
Project Officer. , T;~roul;}: this mechanism, terr-s cf refcronces 25X1
and. certain questions on the current rIIS anc} mana,:rtent information needs
in general were posed to the Groups, Staff., and Pl`-IR.
3. In addition, other approaches to itlfarmation systenL were looked
at and cortsidcred, such as the 1'R4A1PT systern, the L'AC
UAIALS development, the DOD project PRIAit, the 0/PPB study an a PP's information
System, the DD/S SIPS program,, and so fort;t.
