d. Consideration should be given a site/building for
the storage of salvage. If an open site is chosen vs.
an enclosed building, weather conditions should be con-
sidered.
SPECIFICATIONS
. 1. Site inspection for prospective bidders is covered in
spec time, place, contact, etc.
2. Does on bay (motor) carry the load of pushing thee
remaining bays - Are they synchronous in operation?
3. The number of test cycles needs to be spe1) pd out,
What would a typical days use be?
4. Contractor shall notify the user -mays prior
to starting test on mock-up.
5. Key components (motors, link belts, gears, pulleys,
wheels, wheel bearings, relays, cords, switches, plugs, general
chassis components) shall be visually inspected (without dis-
assembly) for obvious signs of wear, deterioration or damage
after the test cycle has been completed. This inspection shall
be carried out by the user.
6. Size of mock-up actually depends on the basic working
principal of the unit chosen. Under any and all circumstances,
the motor/drive assembly should be tested under full scale load.
The storage load may be simulated, however. The load imposed
on the motor/drive unit by the actual structure and/or struc-
turers of the storage assembly must hbt. be simulated.

.7. Will the contractor have any problems as far as the
delivery of materials to the site? - Security? Any problems
with subcontractors?
8. The spec mentions the contractors responsibility for
delivering 'prison-industry' shelving to the site - This
material may already have been delivered to the site
re f the contractor.
10. T'btere are some conflicting areas in regards to lead
times for review of plans and mock-up. Part of the plan requi-
sition possibly may be omitted in lieu of the mock-up provided
by the contractor.
11. What exact items will the contractor personnel be re-
quired to furnish, what form shall be used by these personnel?
12. Contractor should be notified that he should excercise
Creme care in avoiding damage to delicate.equipment presently
installed in the work spaces.
13...Escort requirements should be more clearly indicated
in the security section of the spec.
14. Is a contractor quality control section needed in the
spec?
15. Should a set 'reaction time' be included in the con-
tractors warranty - Present wording calls for a'reasonable time,
What is a reasonable time in an emergency? - In a routine repair
matter? - What is routine. What is an emergency?

16. The painting of damaged items/areas is covered in the
paihting spec.
17. Should shelving ranges be 'opened' vs. 'cleared'?
18. The testing of the motor/drive/assembly should be con-
tinuous from increment to increment completion; i.e., increment
#1 should be tested during the construction of increment #2 -
Test #1 and #2 during the construction of #3, etc. Testing
should be considered complete at the end of testing increment
#4 and final acceptance by user. This test should be a 1 week
minimum.
19. The existing maintenance clause in the spec may not
be essential. This maintenance clause could be separated into
a separate bid item for other FY 71 funds. This would tend to
simplify the contract in the eyes of the contractor. A main-
tenance contract should not be required during the initial
warrantee period - provided the warantee has a decent reaction
time built in.
20. Is 30 f c sufficient illumination for the bottom shelf
vs. 50 fc?
21.What should be the maximum? Motor/drive per circuit?
Consideration should be given not only to electricity-fire safety
hazards but also to personnel safety and also to a minimum down
factor at and one time.
