MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIRECTOR:
Richard Harkness over NBC stated that CIA had done a good intelligence
job, having furnished the White House in writing 24 hours before the Israeli
attack with a prediction that: (1) The lateen would not invade Jordan as
the Press had been stating; (2) the Israeli would invade Egypt; (3) the
French and British would invest the Suez Canal zone.
Next week's issue of U. S. NEWS 8c WORLD REPORT will include a corrective
story stating that the CIA and the intelligence community did a good job in
accurately predicting the Egyptian attack and the British and French invest-
ment of the Suez Canal Zone. The second part of the story will discuss the
alleged diplomatic failure, stating substantially that our ambassadors to
London and to Paris did not know of the impending attack.
