STAT STAT Declassified in Part- Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @50-Yr 2013/11/14: CIA-RDP74-00297R001001300040-6 STAT 27 April 1955 MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIRECTOR: Mr. Amory telephoned MB this morning regarding the request from Martha Bucknell of FORTUNE for permission to have their photographer take a Candid photograph of Mr. Dulles. Mr. Amory said that there should be no photograph of Mr. Dulles with the article which Charles J. V. Murphy had written after a conference with Mr. Amory for FORTUNE. Mr. Amory expressed the belief that some make-up girl down the line likely wanted the picture to dress up the story. I immediately thereafter phoned Mr. Murphy. He said he wanted the photo- graph because they had run one a year ago of Mr. John Foster Dulles. I reminded him that they had also run one .of Mr. Allen W. Dulles on a CIA story. He said what he had in mind to illustrate his story was a picture of Allen Dulles, one of Mr. Anderson (Defense), and the entrance to the National Security Council meetin, room. STAT However, he stated that he thought this was a short-sighted decision. I told him I understood his attitude, and that sometimes we, too, may be of two minds, but under the circumstances in this case, this is the correct decision. He said that he would respect our wishes. Copy to Mr. Amory. 1.11Vdtt1 J.
