Drew Pearson at 600 P.M. over WO? (Washington) and various
other stations throughout the
country:
"This is Drew Pearson in Athens, Greece, be back in a
minute With a report on the Syrian crisis and the latest Inside
news from the Balkans and the Neat East.
"First,? the latest inside news from Damascus. Here is what
the United States is really worried about in Syria, namely, the
repetition of the Korean War.'
"Allen Dulles, head of CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE, has warned there
is grave danger the Russians may start a Near East war using satel-
lite volunteer armies just as they aid in Korea. Syria has a net-
work of spies and agents all through the desert kingdom of Jordan
and Lebanon, while Egypt has infiltrated from the south. These
agents are working tb-take over Jordan, thereby putting Soviet
influence one step nearer the great oil fields of Arabia,
"Once located in Jordan, they would also control the holy
places where Christ was born in Bethlehem and where he was buried
in Jerusalem. They would also. be in a position to push into Israel.
This is what Loy Henderson reported to john Foster Dulles after
his trip to the Near. East. Be predicted that both Jordan and
Lebanon would be overthrown by red agents working for the Syrian
network. unless the United States intervened."
