Approved For Release 2001/08/09 : CIA-RDP74-00390R000300440006-1 MEMORANDUM FOR: SUBJECT : ADP Contingency Backup for CIA REFERENCE : Memo from Mr. to Chairman IPB, dated 8 December 1970, Same Subject Bob: Here are my random comments on referent memo. 1. Agree that we have already crossed the bridge on decisions for computer backup in event of nuclear attack. It's simply too expensive to plan for the contingency, so there is no need to spin our wheels on that subject. 2. The CRS stated plan app4Ars to be in fairly good shape on paper. However, I think they have no tapes in storage they do have a voluminous collection of microfilm and punch cards down there. STATINTL However, if there are plans to substantially increase storage of "inherited files" once duplicate copies of AEGIS data base (see page 3 reference), we haven't been clued in. Re page 9, siggestions that each computer center maintain an alternate site for backup copies of programs(tapes?) and files idea, but (remote from tape library but within same building). doubt if you will ever find office space to do this. One r thing that can and should be done is a thorough review and analysis of existing tape libraries to purge excess tape, identify, catalog, and schedule tapes and card checks into our records program. In this regard I am attaching the portions of James B. Rhodds 9 October 1970 speech that Approved For Release 2001/08/09 : CIA-RDP74-00390R000300440006-1 Approved For Release 2001/08/09 : CIA-RDP74-0039OR000300440006-1 deals with ADP records and what Records Management people should be doing about them. You may wish to crank this into your response to the IPB on this paper. Approved For Release 2001/08/09 : CIA-RDP74-0039OR000300440006-1
