Talked to Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, and made a tentative date for Friday to review the specific reductions in the IC budget presentations. Preston told me that they are fragmented so that it will be necessary to go back over the documents to determine the total of reductions. He reconfirmed that the Agency budget was not reduced by the Committee. Messrs. Briggs, OPPB, and Elliott, IC, have been advised. Committee staff, and brought him up-to-date on the status of the "Ervin amendment" now pending before the House Judiciary Committee. Preston told me that it would be his suggestion that Mr. Helms call Chairman Mahon if it becomes necessary to have Chairman Mahon talk to Chairman Celler about this bill.
